New Year
Happy New
Year! This year I have great plans for
this webpage, some of which will hopefully see the light of day if my class
schedule allows me to have some free time.
It
seems as though much of the general population has an irrational fear of
theoretical physics and math, which is quite unfortunate since many of the most
rewarding intellectual pursuits are in these two fields. I’d like to discuss some of the more
interesting results of both fields in as little technical language as possible,
so as to stimulate interest in these fields without putting too many people to
sleep. Since I’m taking Physics 250,
Principles IV: Modern Physics, I’ll probably have some interesting things to
discuss. Especially I’d like to post
something on relativity, which seems to be a topic most people consider to be
completely outside of their understanding.
I’ll try to balance the math with discussing what these equations
actually mean, which brings me to my next topic, philosophy. I probably won’t have many philosophical
posts here, but if I do they’ll probably be related to the philosophical
foundations of physics and math, a topic that I feel it is vital for every
physicist/mathematician to at least consider.
I’d
also like to discuss more current events, which unfortunately seem to have
little to do with math and physics, and it’s likely that some religious
thoughts will be posted here and there as applicable to current events.
Additionally,
I’d like to remind everyone that they’re welcome to email me comments, or
suggestions of topics I should discuss.
